Green Roof

A green roof is a live, growing green space on top of a human-made structure. Installed directly on the structure, a green roof manages excess water run off by keeping it out of the sewers, insulates the garage and reduces temperature gain from the roof.

Our roof, provided by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, is a sensory garden of native plants. It directs water to our pond through a water management system (see "Rain Water Pond" for a detailed description of this process).

In winter you can see the garden’s location from the street, just look for the Sioux tipi. Our students, Scouts and adults enjoy warming themselves around the central fire of this outdoor classroom.
