Biking
The Urban Ecology Center at Washington Park is not on the Oak Leaf Recreational Trail, but its bordering streets do have bike lanes. One route you may consider is taking Brady along Walnut, which turns into Lisbon. Turn left onto 40th Street, and then right a block later into the parking lot. Or a bike route from the downtown/Marquette area would be to take Highland. Shortly after Highland curves north, take a right on Vliet Street and a quick left onto 40th Street. Take 40th Street 5 blocks north and turn left into the parking lot. There are bike racks on the lagoon side of the building. Check out the following link for a map of the Oak Leaf Recreational Trail for options from your location.
Now that you made it to the park, here's how to find our Washington Park building:

The entrance to our branch is a little tricky to find. We’re working on signage to help you find us easily, but in the meantime please follow these directions. Our branch is located in the Community Building/Washington Pavilion on the lagoon on the north east side of the park (Location address: 1859 N. 40th St.; our Lisbon address is for our mail) Our branch isn’t the whole building, just the north end of it.
The building can be accessed by car from 40th Street between Lisbon Avenue and Vliet Street. Enter from 40th Street into the parking lot adjacent to the County Parks Service Yard (north of the swimming pool). It’s best to park in this lot and walk along the driveway to the building with the Urban Ecology Center sign on it. There is limited parking available near the building as well.
There are several entrances to this building. Our primary entrance is on the west side of the building facing the lagoon. Don’t be confused by the first door you see from the driveway. Keep going around to the lagoon. You will find the double doors that open into our part of the building at the north end. The doors are painted dark blue with a picture of a night scene (a tree, owl and skunk). Don’t be fooled by the two other sets of painted double doors on this side of the building! Open the door during our visiting hours and ta-da, you found us! Woohoo!
Check out the map above for walking paths that lead to the building from your neighborhood too! Visit us soon!
