Learn about sustainability from nature itself by exploring the science of decomposition. Meet our composting worms, decipher the difference between what is trash from what can be recycled and discover how your everyday choices can positively impact the planet.
Step into the shoes of environmental scientists, engineers, and advocates as you take on real-world ecological challenges. In this interactive program, middle and high school students team up to investigate local environmental issues and design creative, practical solutions.
Working with tools, data, and scenarios provided by a UEC Program Facilitator/Green Career Pathways instructor, participants will:
Choose two career area focuses for your 75 minute program experience:
Space Needs: Indoor classroom or table-based space (no gym floors or individual tiny desks).
Capacity: Minimum 10 students; ideal 20; maximum 26.
Cost: $150 for up to 30 participants; +$5 per additional student.

We travel anywhere in Milwaukee County, with priority given to City of Milwaukee neighborhoods.
Your location must have bathroom access for participants and UEC staff.
Programs include at least 30 minutes outdoors during our 60-minute session.
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather.
In inclement weather, outdoor activities may be shortened or modified, but unless the weather is severe, we aim to remain outside.
The UEC can provide extra layers, including hats and mittens, for participants if needed.
To keep the scheduling process simple and fair for all groups, we ask that payments are made according to the following timeline:
If full payment is not received by the deadline, your program will be cancelled and the deposit will be retained.

Forms of Payment accepted:
A program service contract will be emailed to your organization/group representative upon booking.
The contract must be reviewed, signed, and returned to programs@urbanecologycenter.org within one week of receipt to secure your program date.
Contracts returned after this window may result in your program date and services not being guaranteed.
We know plans can change! If you cancel more than two weeks before your program date, your deposit will be refunded. Cancellations within two weeks forfeit the deposit, and cancellations within 48 hours or no-shows will be charged the full program fee.
If unexpected circumstances arise, please contact the Program Director right away to discuss alternative arrangements.
The Urban Ecology Center follows strict outdoor safety and weather policies, including severe weather and unsafe air quality conditions.
If weather is questionable, the UEC will determine if a program should be canceled.
We honor your organization’s severe weather policy. If a cancellation occurs, you will receive a full refund.
Yes! Programs can be modified for individuals with specific needs.
Please communicate any accommodations at the time of booking so we can prepare appropriately.
